Increase Awareness
Updated: May 26, 2022
The Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to the timely and effective treatment for people with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The US Mental Health system is broken. You can get involved in Fixing the System by advocating for legislation concerning key issues such as
Funding mental illness and criminal justice reform provisions
Decriminalizing mental illness
Clarifying HIPAA regulations
Improving access to psychiatric beds
Proper data collection on the role and prevalence of serious mental illness in public systems.
You can influence Mental Health Policy by becoming a TAC Advocate in Your State and by contacting your local, state, and federal elected leaders.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Promote awareness on your social media and get involved in or organize local events. See References for example activities.
